Fusing John Portman’s ideology that architecture should engage the individual with the modern connectivity of cities, we wondered: What could be created if the interiors of the Embarcadero Center buildings could feel connected to the city they looked out on?
The spaces are brimming with light and flowing destinations that encourage movement. They contain intentional architectural detailing that allude to the building’s façade with vertical patterns, scale, and transparency. Their variety and materiality embody San Francisco’s diverse and dynamic energy. These elements interact with light/shadow to keep the space fresh and surprising for its occupants throughout the workday.
